Instruments added to the Orrery Collection
A strength of the Orrery Collection as historical evidence is that a careful inventory was prepared in 1731 by the instrument maker Thomas Wright. We therefore know what was in the collection at that date. As with all such collections, over time objects come to be added to it or associated with it. On the bottom level of the showcase are instruments that became part of the 'Orrery Collection' while it was at Christ Church, but for which there is no evidence in 1731.
