SECOND ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1925 OF THE COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT OF THE LEWIS EVANS COLLECTION

Under "Collections on Loan"

"Daubeny Laboratory, Magdalen College. The Daubeny Curator has deposited with the Collection a selection of the ancient chemical apparatus of the period 1790-1820, which was used in the Ashmolean Chemical Laboratory in the basement of our building. We have therefore on exhibition what is probably the largest collection of old chemical glassware in the world. In 1847 it was removed by Professor Daubeny from the Ashmolean Laboratory to his new building at Magdalen College. It was never used there, but the bulk was fortunately preserved in cupboards. It may now be studied alongside the great burning-glass, which was doubtless used for furnace operations in the same laboratory at a rather earlier period."
