Gilt brass. Unsigned; perhaps by Hans Dorn. Inscribed: "AVE MARIA 1481". Includes:

1. A combined nocturnal, lunar volvelle, and aspectarium.

2. A table of the latitudes of 26 places.

3. A universal equinoctial dial for equal hours, Babylonian and Italian hours, and adjustable for any latitude between 20° and 60°. Around the compass of this dial are engraved the latitudes of a further 26 places.

4. An unfinished quadrant dial. The sights, for use with this quadrant, are placed on the side of the case opposite the hinge.

Hans Dorn of Vienna was working in Buda [Budapest] from the late 1460s, at the Dominican monastery, as friend and assistant of Regiomontanus, and later of Martin Bylica of Olkusz. Dorn returned to Vienna in the late 1480s.
