Travelling dials
Many sundials are installed permanently on walls or in gardens. They only need to work for a single fixed latitude. But portable dials may be taken further afield and require adjustment to work in widely separated latitudes. One solution is to incline both the hour plate and the gnomon [1, 4]. Alternatively only the angle of the gnomon may be changed, but this requires a selection of different hour scales [2, 3].
