English compendia
This form of compendium was offered by several makers in 17th-century England. The earliest example here [2] is dated 1602 and is the only known instrument signed by 'TW', whose identity is not known. It combines an equinoctial dial, a compass, a nocturnal and a lunar volvelle. Charles Whitwell in 1606 [3] dispenses with the nocturnal, but it is included by his apprentice Elias Allen in his silver example [1].
