"THE OXFORD ASTROLABE"
1925

Designed for educational use, the "Oxford Astrolabe" was made and sold by W. Watson & Sons Ltd., High Holborn, London. The "plate", printed on paper, is dry-mounted on an aluminium sheet; the transparent rete and the alidade are of celluloid; the scales and stars on the rete were photographed and chemically engraved on the celluloid. The astrolabe was available with a plate for latitude 41°, 50 1/2°, 51 1/2°, 53 1/2° or 56°N.

The "Oxford Astrolabe" was designed by Professor C. F. Jenkin, C.B.E., M.A., M. Inst. C.E., Professor of Engineering Science in this University. He wrote a small book, 'The Astrolabe. Its construction and use', which was published by Messrs. Watson & Sons to accompany the astrolabe.
