Signed, on the back, "PHILIPVS Danfrieus, Siderographus Regius Generalis Lutetiæ exarabat, Anno Salutis 1584". Wood and pasteboard, with brass alidade, rule, etc.
4 plates for latitudes 39°, 42°, 45°, 48°, 51°, 54° and 57°.
Original leather-covered wooden box for the astrolabe.
On the back, in addition to an illustrated zodiacal/calendar scale and the shadow square, there are two circular scales giving the Cyclus Solaris, Literae Domenicales, Index Paschae, Epactae, and Aurei Numeri. Adjacent to these scales, is the inscription, 'Hoc Dorsum Kaledario reformato precise [a]comodatum est Per J. Gosselinum custodem Regiae Bibliothecae Regis francoru".
