'Professor Soddy has given two valuable instruments which were presented to the University by the Duchess of Marlborough, one an electrical Gramme machine by Breguet, the other an early example of a Sprengel Mercury Pump, made by Alvergniat freres of Paris. Sprengel worked in Oxford for a time about 1870.'
