Historical Background - Leclanche Cell

The Leclanche Cell was invented by Georges Leclanche in 1866 and was commonly referred to as the 'carbon cell' or 'dry cell'. The Leclanche Cell remained practically unchanged throughout its long history. GEC advertised them as part of their 'Electric Bells' equipment as early as 1897 and were still supplying them in 1953.
