Historical Background

This set is signed by the Signals section of the Flying Corps under the overall command of the War Department. Hence, it was probably one of the 'Forward' sets used by the Royal Flying Corps for ground-based artillery. If this is so, then it can be dated to pre-April 1918 (i.e. the formation of the Royal Air Force).
