"THE ASTROLABE
Developed by the Muslim scholar Mohammad Al Fazari during the 2nd century of the Hijri calendar (8th A.D.). Historians mentioned more than 300 uses of this instrument in the field of Astronomy, Topography, Geography and Navigation." On plaque on top of gift base.
"On the occasion of the visit to the United Kingdom by the Delegation of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia From 1-5 Muharram 1422 H (26-30 March 2001) / With Compliments / Dr Khalid M.Al-Ankary / Minister of Higher Education, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia." Inscribed on plaque on front of gift base.
Both inscriptions have (presumably) parallel texts in Arabic situated alongside.
