The uses of the sector
Most sectors carry scales for problems in arithmetic, geometry and trigonometry. More specialist applications included proportions for neo-classical architecture [1] and for fortification [3]. Sectoral scales were also featured on proportional dividers [5]. The separation of the points at each end is always in proportion, and can be adjusted by moving the sliding centre piece.
