Exhibition: The Astrolabe, East and West

The Archbishop's astrolabe

This astrolabe was owned by the Archbishop of Canterbury, William Laud, in the 17th century, and his coat-of-arms has been added to the back. (Its blackened appearance is due to atmospheric pollution, perhaps from later gaslight.)
