Exhibition: The Astrolabe, East and West


'Early' Indian Astrolabe

Although there are Hindu treatises on astrolabes from as early as the fourteenth century, there appear to be no surviving instruments engraved in Sanskrit until the late seventeenth or early eighteenth century. This North Indian instrument probably dates from the eighteenth century.
