Exhibition: The Astrolabe, East and West

From the Medici Court

Egnatio Danti, the maker of this astrolabe, was an astronomer and cartographer in the service of Cosimo I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and the single projection is for the latitude of Florence. It is one of the finest Italian astrolabes to have survived from the Renaissance.
