The earliest Persian astrolabe

This is the earliest known Persian astrolabe. Its use of Kufic script and the form of the star-pointers are characteristic of the earliest astrolabes, whatever their origin. The doubt about its precise date comes from uncertainty over the reading of one part of the inscribed date.
