The earliest Persian astrolabe
This is the earliest known Persian astrolabe. Its use of Kufic script and the form of the star-pointers are characteristic of the earliest astrolabes, whatever their origin. The doubt about its precise date comes from uncertainty over the reading of one part of the inscribed date.
Astrolabe, by Ahamad and Muhammad the Sons of Ibrahim, Isfahan, 984/5 or 1003/4 (Inv. 33767)
