Provenance

Evans bought it at the auction sale of the Roussel collection in Paris on 14 March 1911 (lot 197). The coat of arms on the throne resembles that of the Frisian family of Schenckels, one of whom, Lambert Thomas Schenckels, was rector (1574-88) of the Grand École at Malines (Mechelen, latitude 51°, near Antwerp).
