Exhibition Update

Spring, 1998

THE joint exhibition, ‘The Garden, the Ark, the Tower, the Temple’, organized by the Museum and the Bodleian Library, has now closed.

A series of four lectures, one on each of the themes in the title, was arranged to coincide with the exhibition. The lectures were given each Thursday evening in February, in the basement gallery of the Museum, by the exhibition curators Scott Mandelbrote and Jim Bennett. Each lecture was preceded by the relevant reading from the Old Testament, and all were extremely well attended.

The Museum, in association with the Bodleian Library, has published a 200-page catalogue of the exhibition, illustrated throughout with reproductions of the engravings displayed. The catalogue, which was made possible by the support of the Foundation for Intellectual History, is available from the Museum at a price of £12.50, plus £2.55 postage and packing worldwide. Payment may be made by cheque in sterling drawn on a U.K. bank, by eurocheque, or by international money order. Cheques should be made out to “University of Oxford” and sent to the Secretary, at the Museum’s address on the back page.

As well as the printed version of the catalogue, a substantial on-line version of the exhibition is currently under construction. The virtual exhibition will contain a fully-searchable edition of the catalogue text and will be accessible via the Museum’s website at http://www.mhs.ox.ac.uk/.
