Stephen Johnston joins the staff of the Museum as Assistant Keeper from the 1st of October. After studying the History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge, where he stayed on to pursue work for a Ph. D., Dr Johnston took up a position on the staff of the Science Museum, where he has been working since 1987. He is a co-editor of the forthcoming ‘Instruments of Science: an Historical Encyclopedia’, to be published by Garland. When asked, he will list his interests in Who’s Who as mathematical instruments and Javanese Gamelan.
