Transits for the People

Edmond Halley’s 1716 paper on the transits of Venus appeared in Latin in the Royal Society’s Philosophical Transactions. More popularly accessible English editions were published shortly before the 1761 transit, with extensive commentaries and even corrections.
.
The version here was issued by Benjamin Martin, first in monthly parts in his General Magazine. It was afterwards collected together, revised and expanded in this small book, Venus in the Sun (1761).
