Image 44

In the Tychonic astronomical system, as illustrated here in a plate from Andreas Cellarus's Harmonia macrocosmica seu atlas universalis et novis, the earth is stationary at the centre of the solar system, with the moon and sun revolving around it but the planets around the sun.

Three versions of Cellarus's illustration, of which this is the uncoloured version on an unbound plate, are displayed here and in the next two images.
