Without doubt the most famous image of Tycho - indeed one of the most famous images in the whole of the history of astronomy - was the fresco that was painted within the arc of the great mural quadrant at Uraniborg. In what appeared to be a self-conscious attempt to project his own image, Tycho also included an illustration of the mural quadrant and its portrait in his Astronomiæ instauratæ mechanica of 1598 and 1602 (reproduced here from the facsimile edition).
