Many of the images of Tycho Brahe which come down to us derive from an engraved portrait of 1586, taken when he was 40 years old. Two versions exist, both with the same date and by the same engraver: Jacob de Gheÿn. In the the version published in Tycho's Astronomical Letters of 1596, displayed here, the subject has a hat. In the other, he has no hat (see Image 21). In both he holds a pair of gloves, but in different hands.
