Coignet's Geographical Astrolabe
Whereas the terrestrial astrolabes shown so far have all been paper astrolabes in books, there are also metal examples, such as Coignet's astrolabe.

Made by Egidius Coignet (Cuiniet) in Antwerp, 1560. This brass instrument has a north hemispheric terrestrial map projected on the plate in typical stereographic projection. The map shows, unlike the paper astrolabes in books, a well-defined North America. The back of this astrolabe contains a universal sundial. The universal sundial is included in Cosmographia as a volvelle. In effect, Cosmographia contains a complete paper version of this astrolabe.
