Simon Schaffer will examine Newton's Principia, and David Harley theories of disease, both in relation to collection and classification. Michael Wintroub and Nick Wilding will present papers on themes in museology and museum history. Indira Peterson and Matthew Kaufman will look at specific collections: Professor Peterson a cabinet of experimental natural philosophy in eighteenth-century India, Professor Kaufman a collection of marked phrenological heads in Edinburgh.

Completing the programme and proving that the more traditional history of natural history is not forgotten, Staffan Mueller-Wille will offer a paper giving a broad perspective on collection in Linnaean botany.
