European ownership

The Islamic world was a vibrant centre of learning, and western scholarship inherited much of its mathematical and philosophical learning from medieval Islamic sources.
This astrolabe was owned by William Laud, Archbishop of Canterbury and Chancellor of the University of Oxford in the early 17th century.
