The Marconi International Marine Communication Co. Ltd. was founded on 25 April 1900 as a subsidiary of the Marconi Company. It was established with the desire to provide much needed funds to continue the research and experimental work of its parent company. Since ship-to-shore communication was such a success, it was decided that this subsidiary would take over the maritime business (apart from naval installations) of the Marconi Company.
