Compass and Rule: Architecture as Mathematical Practice in England, 1500-1750

Geometrical techniques were central to a reform of architectural practice in England from the 16th to the 18th century, changing how architects worked and what they built as well the status and social standing of their discipline. Important loans of instruments, manuscripts, drawings and books join the Museum’s own objects for a major exhibition.

Opening Hours

The library’s opening times are from 9am to 1pm and 2 to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

The library will be closed on Monday 9th November from 12-2pm.

The library will be closed on Tuesday 10th November from 11am-12pm.

About the Library

The Museum’s library is a research and reference library primarily used by students, academics and researchers. However, collectors, amateurs and members of the public with a genuine interest in our collections are also very welcome to use the library.

There are regular opening hours for the Museum’s own students and affiliated scholars, but other prospective users need to make an appointment with the librarian in advance in order to ensure that the material required is available for consultation.

Museum Opening Hours

Monday	Closed
Tuesday to Friday	12 to 5pm
Saturday	10am to 5pm
Sunday	2 to 5pm
Christmas Opening For the first time, the Museum will open over the Christmas period 12.00-17.00 on 29-30 December 2009. It will otherwise be closed between 24 December 2009 and 1 January 2010 inclusive.
Admission is free.
