Women in ScienceFamily-Friendly Drop In
Find out about scientific women, including two pioneering photographers: Anna Atkins, the first person to publish a book with photographs, and Sarah Acland, a colour pioneer.
Have a go at using sun-sensitive paper (cyanotypes) and find out more about light and colour.
Women have been involved in science for thousands of years as astronomers, mathematicians, instrument makers, and merchants. Use this family trail to travel through our collections and find out about women like Caroline Herschel, an astronomer who discovered 6 new comets and the Sculptor Galaxy pictured above, and Ada Lovelace, the forerunner of computer coding.
Drop-in, all ages.
For International Women's Day and Votes for Women 1918-2018.
