Diptych Dial
Signed by Hans Troschel
Dated 1618; Nuremberg
Ivory and brass; 102 x 166 x 16 mm

This dial is a very elaborate piece; unusual characteristics are the planetary table on the back, showing the ruling planet for each day of the week, and the extensive use of polar dials.

Also very ingenious is the use of the upper leaf as a gnomon for a dial engraved on the inner leaf.
