Nocturnal And Sundial
Unsigned
Dated 1560; French
Gilt brass; 129 mm in diameter

This nocturnal is composed of a disk, pierced in the centre, and equipped with a finely engraved handle. The opening is crossed by a T-shaped brass plate. Triangular points protrude from the circumference and the instrument lacks several pieces.

There is also the inscription 'PASCHAS 1560', suggesting an unusually precise dating for the instrument, at Easter time in that year.
