Astrolabe
Unsigned
circa 1260; Hispano-Moorish
Brass and copper; 178 mm in diameter

The style of this astrolabe, together with the names of the stars on the rete, suggests a Hispano-Moorish origin although the script is of Lombardic type.

The plates are engraved accordingly to the climates, the seven inhabitable regions of the earth according to Ptolemy.
