Gilt brass and ivory; 66 mm in diameter

This unusual astronomical compendium by the renowned Elizabethan maker Charles Whitwell consists of an ivory box with an inset gilt brass instrument for finding the time of high tide at particular ports, a lunar volvelle, a horizontal dial with a folding gnomon and a magnetic compass.
