This astrolabe consists of a mater, containing three plates calibrated for the approximate latitudes 39 and 42?, 45 and 48?, and 51 and 54?, corresponding to a band from North Africa to over the whole of Germany.

The maker, Georg Hartmann, was active in Germany in the middle of the 16th century.
