Astronomical Compendium
Unsigned
Late 16th century ?; German
Gilt brass or copper; 90 x 90 x 19 mm

This compendium shows remarkable similarities to Epact 20713 and can probably be attributed to the same maker or workshop.

Like the other compendium, this instrument is engraved on the back as a quadrant. The plumb bob is now missing.

The unusual names for Tuesday and Thursday, i.e. Erichdag and Pfinsdag on the table of planetary rulers for the hours of the day suggest a Southern German origin.

The extensive decoration includes figures holding astronomical instruments, and inside the shadow square on the back, a man with a spade and a severed head.
