Astrolabe
Signed by Johann Wagner
Dated 1538; Nuremberg
Brass; 121 mm in diameter

In this astrolabe the rete is reduced to the ecliptic circle, with east-west and meridian line, but no star pointers and tropic or equinoctial lines.

This suggests the use of the instrument as an astrological device, rather than an observational one, even if the presence of the alidade makes it usable also for measurement.
