Astrolabe
Signed by Tobias Volckmer
Dated 1594; Brunswick
Brass; 200 mm in diameter

This astrolabe has the unusual feature of the mater being in the form of a disc without rim and the absence of movable plates.

The back bears extensive astrological tables which are often to be found on Islamic astrolabes but are much rarer on European instruments.
