Horizontal Dial

Ivory and gilded brass; 37 x 43 x 14 mm

The Nuremberg sundial maker Paul Reinmann who often signed his work with a crown surmounted with five pearls made this elegant heart-shaped pocket sundial around 1600.

Noteworthy is the depiction on the inside of the brass lid of a fox or a hound leaping over a sea of fire.
