Equinoctial Dial
Unsigned
Late 15th century ?; English
Brass; 40 mm in diameter

This appears to be a very early example of universal equinoctial dial, where to use the hour ring was set parallel to the equator.

The instrument was devised to be used in a variety of latitudes, by means of the folding and adjusting gnomon, but in this example there is only one possible latitude where it could be used but which is not indicated.

It is not signed or dated, but similar examples are held in the Museum of History of Science, Oxford.
