Diptych Dial

Dated 1596; Italian
Ivory and silver; 51 x 64 x 21 mm

Both the outer faces of this oval dial are blank. The inner part of the upper leaf has a pin gnomon dial (pin missing) for Italian hours marked from 13 to 24 in red and green. Below it, there is decoration with circles and stars, and the date '[star] 15 96 [star]'.

The inner face of the lower leaf has a string gnomon dial (string missing) with common hours marked from V to XII to VII and a compass (needle, glass and ring missing).
