Measuring Rod

Iron; 232 mm in length

This instrument consists of a slightly tapered iron measuring rod with a small short end lug. The shape of the rod suggests that it was dipped into liquids.

It is numbered 1 to 9 in Gothic numerals .

The instrument was presented to the Museum by W. L. Hildburgh in 1926 and is described in F. A. B. Ward, A Catalogue of European Scientific Instruments in the Department of Medieval and Later Antiquities of the British Museum (London, 1981), p. 88, no. 246.
