Astronomical Ring Dial
Unsigned
16th century; German
Brass; 75 mm in diameter

This relatively simple astronomical ring dial (centre in the illustration) has undivided hour scales although it is quite finely made.

Unusually, the dial has two separate innermost rings, which must be adjusted until sun-light passes through two holes in them, when the time is read off from the position of the double ring against the hour scales.
