Making Micrographia

Flea
Key Stage: 3 or above
Length: Adaptable
Maximum number: 16 students
This session focuses on the art of microscopic images beginning with a look at the remarkable engravings in an original edition of Robert Hooke’s Micrographia, published in 1665.
A short presentation will be followed by a session using modern microscopes to draw from a range of microscope slides and to gather inspiration from photographs taken from others in the museum’s historic collection.
Students may then be shown how to create monoprints from their drawings using the Education Room for the printing part of the workshop.
Examples of work from previous visits can be seen in the Micrographia Gallery and in the Artefact web resource.
