Skills for the Future

Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Skills for the Future – Trainee Education Officer Programme.

The HLF funded ‘Skills for the Future’ Project is a partnership project across all the Oxford University Museums and Collections which include the Ashmolean Museum, the Pitt Rivers Museum, the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, The Museum of the History of Science, the university’s Joint Museums Education Service (Volunteers and Outreach), and the Oxford University Botanic Garden and Arboretum.

The project aims to provide training opportunities for individuals from appropriate backgrounds to become museum educators. During the 18 months’ traineeship the trainees are supported by their mentors in developing the skills, knowledge and a portfolio record which will help them progress in the area of Museum Education.

The project began in May 2011 and will continue until 2015. The recruitment for the next cohort of trainees will begin in early 2014 and will be advertised on all the OUMC websites and in various local and national media.
