Brief Description: Almost square lodestone with soft iron pole pieces in brass case with large eyelet for suspension ring (missing). The keeper is also missing.
The brass case is engraved with four pictures within ornamental chasing. Two of the pictures show head-and-shoulder portraits of a woman. The other two each show a man and a woman; in one they are in a posture indicating 'attraction' and in the other in a posture indicating 'repulsion'.
The dotted line surrounding the attracted pair is a feature often found in contemporary books on magnetism, where it indicates the supposed limits of the magnetic influence.
