Brief Description: | Compound microscope with limb, stand and stage, body tube, eyepiece, eyecup and stage plate. The microscope's cylindrical limb is supported on trunnions on a cast iron stand. Two mill-edged knobs rack a bar, with a triangular section, up from within the limb. The monocular body tube screws into an arm fixed to the top of the bar. The eyepiece pushes into the top of the body and the lower end has an internal thread to take objectives. A vertical screw on the side of the body operates the fine focus. The stage is mounted on the limb at the level of the trunnions. The stage plate has a shelf to support specimens and slides on a dovetail mounting. A plano-concave mirror is carried on a sliding sleeve at the lower end of the limb. Finished in black lacquer. This type of construction is familiar as the 'Society of Arts' pattern. |
