Brief Description: | Daguerreotype portrait of a woman and two boys (very likely a mother and her sons), the woman seated three-quarter length, facing front, the boys standing either side, her arm around one and the other's hand on her shoulder. Plain backdrop. Slightly tinted. Enclosed and cased. Decoratively moulded papier mâché case (bird on vine design) covered in thin dark brown leather with gold tooling around internal borders. Decorated red velvet internal pad. Pinchbeck frame and plain mat. One hook clasp. The plate is a whitish metal, not the usual copper. The date is inscribed inside the case behind the photograph. | ||||||||||
