Equinoctial dial bought in Vienna

Evans bought this 16th-century equinoctial dial in Vienna in July 1912, paying the rarther high price of £25 for a small, unsigned instrument. He noted the Greek inscription on the rim 'by a less expert & perhaps later hand'; this inscriprion is dated 1584, so the suggestion that it is 'later' is consistent with his dating of c.1560 by his method of measuring the magnetic variation inmdicated on the compass.
