English CIRCUMFERENTOR
18th century

Brass. Signed, "Made by Tho Wright Instrument maker to ye. PRINCE"; undated.

There is a Vernier scale, indicating minutes, at each end of the sighting-arm. The two sight-vanes are detachable so that the instrument may be packed away in a flat box (cf. the circumferentor by J. Worgan in the Orrery Collection [no. 15], exhibited in the former Museum Ashmoleanum).

Lewis Evans Collection.
