Brief Description: Wooden base with threaded vertical support incorporating internal plumb line viewed by two pairs of crossed slits; optional second length of vertical support. Revolving cone with Nicol prism at eye end and glass disc carrying flower-shaped arrangement of selenite films and hour hand at object end, reading against glass disc with semicircular scale of hours. In fitted case, with a typescript copy of Wheatstone's paper from the 18th BAAS meeting (Swansea, 1848).
Primary Inscriptions: "Darker Lambeth" engraved at eyepiece end of cone.
